The Walking Dead: Thy Kingdom come
By Adam Carlson
An interesting group of survivors riding on horses and wearing body armor was introduced on AMC’s The Walking Dead near the end of the show’s sixth season.
On social media, all the talk about the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead is revolving around Negan, The Saviors, and the big cliffhanger ending. However there were several other game-changing situations going on during episode 616, titled “Last Day On Earth”, that has gone under the radar, but are big and meaningful to the future of AMC’s zombie survival drama.
One of these moments was when Morgan had just killed a man who was torturing Carol. After firing his shots through the man’s neck and skull, two men wearing armor appeared on the scene riding horses. Fans of the comic book series should have immediately recognized them as characters from the pages of the graphic novel.
Of course, the real introduction of these characters happened one week before the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead in a brief scene where Morgan and Rick came across a man looking for his horse. Rick was going to shoot at the man who was running away, but Morgan pushed Ricks arm and caused him to shoot off target.
But who are these armored people on horses and what makes them so special?
**WARNING: COMIC SPOILERS BELOW**
These individuals are called The Kingdom, and they are an interesting group. Led by a man who calls himself King Ezekiel, they are a group of survivors who have taken over a school and live in tents on the school grounds. They ride around on horses for their patrols and wear padded body armor to protect themselves.
Of course, talking about The Kingdom would be wrong without mentioning Shiva. As one of the strongest and most ferocious characters from the comic books, Shiva jumps to action at the orders of Ezekiel and makes short work of walkers, humans, or anything that stands in her way. By the way, Shiva is a bengal tiger.
Sadly, they are also at the mercy of The Saviors. Much like The Hilltop, Ezekiel’s group must give half of everything they have to Negan’s group, which makes things difficult for the group to exist. Because of that, Alexandria and The Hilltop could have a valuable ally in The Kingdom if the show follows the course of the comic book series.

Of course, fans will have to wait until season 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead to learn more about Ezekiel, Shiva, and The Kingdom. Plus it will be interesting to see if the television show will change anything about the relationship that develops between the new group and the people of Alexandria.
