Robert Kirkman Knows Exactly How Walking Dead Comics Will End
By Adam Carlson
It’s no secret that the creator of The Walking Dead is a sick genius. Robert Kirkman has given fans shocking moments that have dropped jaws and shed tears. Over the course of the comic book run, he’s been able to create a lot of emotion through the pages of his graphic novels and tell a very compelling story.
Sadly, all good stories have to come to an end. And that remains true to the fantastic The Walking Dead comic book series.
While many fans of the television show don’t read the comics, it’s good to know that Robert Kirkman has an endgame in mind for the graphic novel series. Rick and the gang have been through hell and back on the inked pages of the comics and it looks like Robert Kirkman knows exactly how it will all go down.
Here’s what The Walking Dead’s creator Robert Kirkman had to say about the end of the comic book series in an article from Entertainment Weekly’s Dalton Ross:
"“I think about a year or two ago. From the very beginning I would always plot these big, long overarching stories. So it’d be like, oh, they’re going to get to the prison, then this is going to happen and then that’s going to happen and that’s going to happen. I wouldn’t really map out how many issues those were going to take, but I would always make sure that I had somewhere between two and ten years of story mapped out ahead of me.”"
Robert Kirkman continued about the way he has things mapped out. But now, he’s ready to say that he knows exactly how he wants the comics to end and when he’ll know it’s time to finish things off.
"“About a year or two ago, I finally nailed down exactly what I want the ending to be. So now I’ve kind of got two trails of story going in my head. One working to where I’m at very far into the future, and one working from the end backwards. When those two stories meet, then I’ll know exactly how long the story is. I’m rapidly approaching that point.”"
Fans of the TV show shouldn’t be worried about the fact that the comic series could be coming to an end soon. Robert Kirkman is a fantastic creative mind and will ensure that there is enough creative content to keep the show going for a long time. However, having the comics find closure means that he can focus more on his other projects and continue to deliver exciting content into the future.
