The Walking Dead: Are The ‘W’ Marked Walkers A Warning?
By Adam Carlson
After seeing another instance of the walkers with the letter “W” carved into their heads, I’m starting to think that this was happening well before Rick and the gang got to the area and that it has absolutely nothing to do with the people of Alexandria. Instead, I think these walkers are a warning from one group of survivors to another.
**Warning: Comic Spoilers Below**
In the comic books for The Walking Dead, there are some pretty crazy groups of survivors out there that are competing with Alexandria for supplies and other resources. Because of that, there are some powerful groups out there that are willing to do anything they can to help their people.
One of those groups that is rumored to be appearing soon on The Walking Dead is The Whisperers. These people blend in with the walkers by covering themselves in blood and guts and even wearing the faces of dead walkers. They do this to be able to get in and out of situations undetected by the undead. However, they take it very personally if one of their people are killed and are quick to seek revenge.
Another group of survivors is called The Scavengers. However, I think that AMC will “remix” the name of the group and make them be the “Wolves” that have been teased since the events at Shirewilt Estates. Led by their leader named Derek, this group goes to an area and use up all the supplies and move on to the next. However, in the comics, Glenn and Heath (possibly Glenn and Nicholas or Daryl and Aaron on the show) find these guys looting a store while on the roof of a building. This group is so ruthless that they throw one of their own into a group of walkers to escape the mess.
Right now, I’m thinking the “W” is a warning from one of these two groups to the other. It could be something that the Wolves do to mark their territory. Or it could be The Whisperers trying to let people know that they exist and are trying to survive on their own in a certain area.
What do you guys think? Are the “W” markings from the Wolves as a remixed version of The Scavengers or is it The Whisperers making their mark on the community? Or is it another group like The Saviors, the Hilltop Community, or The Kingdom being made a bit different for AMC’s The Walking Dead?
Right now, all we can do is speculate. There won’t be a lot of spoilers coming out about the season 5 finale of The Walking Dead, so curiosity and tension are at an all time high within the show’s fan base. Hopefully, we’ll find out a lot about these walkers, who is marking them, and why during AMC’s season 5 finale of The Walking Dead.
