The Walking Dead’s Michael Cudlitz Used To Work Construction

Every once in a while, life mirrors your work in a way that is both interesting and amusing.  That’s exactly what happened to The Walking Dead’s Michael Cudlitz.

Cudlitz wasn’t always the big tv star that he is now.  Prior to getting his big break, he actually worked a construction job.  The reason this is so appropriate is because Michael Cudlitz plays a character named Abraham Ford on The Walking Dead.  Late in season 5, Abraham is assigned to the construction unit at the Alexandria Safe-Zone and is even promoted to lead that group.

During a recent interview with UPROXX, Michael Cudlitz talked about his history with construction and, strangely enough, zombies prior to being on The Walking Dead.

"“I don’t do construction anymore. I’m on a voluntary withdrawal. I haven’t been active in the Local 44 in… well, it’s been since two year’s after Band of Brothers so that would make it since 2002. I’m still a member, and if I back-pay the two years worth of dues, I can come back in. It’s how I paid my way through school. I started out on Tales From The Darkside and then I worked on Tales from the Crypt.”"

And it’s not like Michael Cudlitz didn’t build anything of note.  In fact, he manufactured one of the most iconic pieces from one of the most popular shows of all time.

"“Yeah, I built the Crypt Keeper’s coffin, the multi-faceted thing he pops up out of. You know, I never even talked to Greg [Nicotero] about it. I wonder if he ever had any association with that at all.”"

At least now we know that if a real life zombie type situation hits, Michael Cudlitz could contribute in a manner quite similar to his onscreen counterpart on The Walking Dead.  And how many actors on the show can actually say that?

You can catch Michael Cudlitz in the season 5 finale of The Walking Dead set to air on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 9 pm EST on AMC.  Be sure to check your local listings for actual time and availability.
