Daryl Dixon Appears On Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update

Sunday night and Saturday night blended together last night when the popular sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live took an opportunity to talk about the popular AMC zombie drama The Walking Dead.  During one of their segments called “Weekend Update”, a familiar face showed up when they attempted to review The Walking Dead’s season 5 finale.

Check out the Saturday Night Live video that is hosted on Hulu showing this funny scene:

I was really amused by this skit.  It helped show that The Walking Dead is one of the most easily recognizable shows on television and to use one of the most popular characters like Daryl Dixon on the show even adds to the identifiably of the brand.  It even went on to identify Norman Reedus as “that guy from the Boondock Saints”.

There is also quite a bit of amusement in the fact that the show’s skit mistook one of the show’s regulars (Pete Davidson) as a zombie because of his excessive marijuana use.  The way he described the traits of the walkers and compared them to how he is normally while under the influence of drugs.

Still in character, Norman Reedus went on in the sketch to talk about some of the other people he had mistaken for members of the undead.  Hopefully, The Walking Dead’s immense popularity can lead to more appearances like this on other television shows.

SNL can be seen on Saturday nights and The Walking Dead will return from their season 5 break this fall.  Be sure to check your local listings for time and availability.
