The Walking Dead’s Steve Coulter Discusses The Season 5 Finale

Steve Coulter had a pretty nice career going for himself well before he auditioned to be on The Walking Dead.  He had a big role in the second movie in the “Insidious” film series and had appeared in other blockbusters like The Conjuring and The Hunger Games.  However, one really strange audition landed him the role of Reg Monroe on the popular zombie television series.

According to AJC.com, Steve Coulter’s scene with the producers of The Walking Dead was like others that we’ve read about.  During his audition, he played the husband of a famous author at a cocktail party.  He played that role as he was approached to talk about his wife’s success.  Now, looking back on it, it’s fairly obvious that the skills needed for that role would translate well to Reg Monroe, the husband of Alexandria’s leader, Deanna.

It’s clear to see that they made the right decision, since Steve Coulter did a fantastic job as Reg Monroe during season 5.

Sadly, Reg Monroe won’t be returning for season 6.  During the finale for season 5, Steve Coulter found his character’s throat cut accidentally by an inebriated and enraged Pete when he was charging at Rick Grimes.  One of the final scenes of the episode was Reg dying in the arms of his wife while she gave Rick approval to kill Pete.

In the ASJ article, Steve Coulter discussed what that final scene was like to film:

"“It was fun,” Coulter said, despite the fact it was below freezing in November. They had a device pumping fake blood out of his neck. “It felt like gallons going through my fingers!” he said. “It’s like being a kid and squashing ketchup packets.”"

We at Undead Walking would like to thank Steve Coulter for his excellent work at Reg Monroe on The Walking Dead and look forward to seeing him in his future projects.  According to IMDB, he has several projects in the works, including the films “Extraction”, Atlanta Undercover”, and Insidious: Chapter 3.  Be sure to watch for them to hit a theatre near you.
