The Walking Dead: Is Steven Yeun Preparing For Glenn’s Death?

The Walking Dead is currently enjoying a break between season 5 and season 6, but the popular AMC zombie drama has left us all with a lot of questions and quite a bit about anxiety about what is going to happen next.  With The Wolves closing in and the reuniting of Morgan and Rick, it’s sometimes easy to overlook some of the other characters and some of the events that could be coming up very soon according to the comics.

Of course, one of the major events coming up from The Walking Dead’s comic book series involves the introduction of The Saviors and their leader Negan.  It doesn’t take long for Negan to make a big impression, as he makes short work of Glenn with his weapon of choice, a barbed wire wrapped baseball bat called Lucille.

Tuesday at the 2015 National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, AMC president Charlie Collier, The Walking Dead’s creator Robert Kirkman and Steven Yeun (the actor who plays Glenn Rhee) were on hand to discuss the popular show with members of the media.

One of the great questions came in the form of directly asking about killing off major characters, in which Robert Kirkman was quick to reply jokingly with the following statement:

"“We don’t kill the popular characters.”"

C’mon Kirkman.  We’ve seen The Walking Dead.  We’ve read the comics.  By now, we know that nearly anyone on The Walking Dead can be killed off at any time.  And that theory is something that Steven Yeun is well aware of.  At the NAB convention, Yeun seemed almost seemed ready in the event that Glenn is killed off soon.

"“The way that we make the show — the writers and everybody really want to focus on making things poignant and purposeful and meaningful. So if it were for Glenn to go, then it’s probably going to be awesome.” Yeun said."

The good news for Steven Yeun is that Glenn might not be in as much trouble as people are making it out to be.  The Walking Dead seems to change things up from the comics to keep things fresh and keep viewers on their toes.  Using a major event from the comics to flip the script on viewers would be a great way to keep everyone talking about the show while not killing off Glenn.  Of course, that means another of the show’s main characters would likely have to take his place.

The Walking Dead will return for season 6 this fall on AMC.  Be sure to tune in to see what kind of surprises the popular show has in store for Glenn and the rest of the gang.
