The Walking Dead’s Season Six: Cryptic Expectations

Whenever the actors or show runners are asked about what we can expect from their characters or from the show going forward, the answers are always cleverly cryptic.  This is something wonderful and frustrating about The Walking Dead.

It leads to tons of guessing, speculation and theories. Some people love the guessing. Who will die? Will they follow the comics?  Will they tweak the comics? How will they tweak the comics? What actors will be cast as big comic villains? Other people (me) like to just let it happen. I know that they always manage to twist things for me in the cleverest of ways and I like to just let it unfold. The teasers and commercials always edit things in the most confusing and jumbled ways.

On Talking Dead, Scott Gimple gave us these cryptic clues about Season Six;

"“For a good while now, humans have been the bigger threat. At the start of our next season, that will change,” Gimple wrote. “I’ve said before the show reinvents itself every eight episodes and we’re doing it again, friendos. Now that these characters know that they have what it takes to survive, what are they going to do with that power? How will they choose to live? Beyond answering those questions, we’re currently putting into motion some of our most ambitious stuff yet and things are going to get very big, loud and scary.”"

If you look at that quote and think back to the clues we’ve received over the years, they could apply to almost any character or any season. I imagine that these will be some expectations for Season 6:

  • Humans will be a threat.
  • Walkers will be a threat.
  • Questions will be answered.
  • New questions will be posed.
  • Relationships will be built.
  • Other relationships will be challenged.
  • Comic storyline will be introduced and followed.
  • Comic storyline will be changed and adjusted.
  • People and walkers will die.
  • There will be cool walker effects.
  • Things will get dramatic.
  • There will be new settings and enemies and threats.

Many of you will say, what was the point of this article. That is what I always say when I see teasers and listen to the answers the actors and show runners give on Talking Dead!  There’s a fine line for me during the season when people talk about the show. I love to talk about what has happened and what the characters are experiencing. I love the symbolism and lines and echoes.

I’m not a big spoiler person or a person who wants to know a whole lot about what’s coming up. How about you? Are you dying to know more about Season Six? Are you already guessing who will die and what comic storylines will be followed? Or are you just plain excited like me and just want it to happen no matter what comes?
