The Walking Dead’s fifth season had many powerful moments that tugged at the heartstrings of fans everywhere.  We lost some of our favorite characters, saw others break down to the edge of insanity, and others dropped our jaws in disbelief.

So, as you likely know if you’re still reading this far in the article, The Walking Dead saw Tyreese pass away during season five.  It was an emotional episode that was especially touching for me because of how much I adored the character.  It was a great sendoff for Tyreese, as he was given one of the most elaborate goodbyes in the show’s history.

Recently, at a panel at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, some of the cast and crew members of The Walking Dead gathered to discuss the popular AMC television show.  An article on TheWalkingDead.com recounted what was said by Chad L. Coleman, the actor who plays Tyreese, during the event about the fall of Tyreese:

"“It’s understanding the magnitude of living out your ideology, not just saying words, but actually living it out. That’s an incredibly challenging thing to do for any human being… I thought when [Tyreese] died, he absolutely had found his absoluteness in this life.”"

Another star of The Walking Dead chimed in about Tyreese’s beautiful demise.  Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes) discussed how great both the episode and Chad Coleman’s performance was:

"“It is inevitable that we’re all gonna get it at some point and the manner in which you deal with that is the mark of who you are. When I watched him in that episode, it was extraordinary. He gave an acting performance that was like a master class.”"

Personally, I thought that Tyreese was one of the most interesting characters on the show because of how he differed from his comic book counterpart and his unique view on what it took to survive during the zombie apocalypse.  Because of those factors, Chad L. Coleman’s great performance and the beauty of the episode titled “What Happened and What’s Going On”.

What did you think of Tyreese’s character?  Did you feel that the episode featuring his death was a piece of art?  Or did you think it was a piece of crap?  Let me know in the comments below.
