Michael Cudlitz: ‘It’s Hard To Say Goodbye’ On Walking Dead
By Adam Carlson
Michael Cudlitz has become one of the biggest fan favorites on The Walking Dead. His work as Abraham Ford has made fans go on a bit of an emotional roller coaster. From the story of his family’s death and learning about the lies from Eugene to coming up with some of the most colorful catchphrases in television history, Abraham made his way into the good graces of fans.
Sadly, being a fan favorite doesn’t mean that you’re immune to being killed off on The Walking Dead. We’ve seen many of the most popular characters on the show die without hesitation at any moment. Michael Cudlitz knows this all too well, as he’s seen several of his fellow castmates on The Walking Dead be written off the show.
In a recent interview on ComicBook.com, Cudlitz talked about what it’s like to lose a fellow cast member after bonding on the set of The Walking Dead. Here is what he told them:
"“It’s hard to say goodbye to everybody that you have a good time working with them. You do become a family on any show. We’re out in Atlanta, out in the middle of nowhere, so we bond together. But yeah, you’re saying goodbye to friends, you’re saying goodbye to people you love working with, and you’re saying goodbye to the character. It’s never a happy time but we all know it’s coming.”"
Sadly, you never know when you’re going to get that call on The Walking Dead. There have been stories of actors from the show who were terrified to answer the phone because they thought the producers were calling to inform them of their character’s demise. However, Michael Cudlitz seems to have a great attitude about when his time on the hit AMC show will come to an end.
"“Me worrying doesn’t make me stay around longer. They’ll take me out if and when they want to. I’ll just enjoy the time that I’m here.”"
That’s the way everyone should look at it. It really is awesome that they can be a part of something as special as The Walking Dead and lend their talents to helping it succeed. In the meantime, hopefully we can get some more great spoilers about season 6 from him, much like this one that he gave in the interview.
"“Yeah! I think each episode is like… an hour?”"
Thanks, Abraham. Fans of The Walking Dead will be looking forward to seeing more from Michael Cudlitz and the rest of the gang when the hit show returns for its 6th season this fall on AMC.
