Elizabeth Rodriguez Adds Familiarity To Fear The Walking Dead
By Adam Carlson
‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is one of those shows that is getting a lot of attention, yet it hasn’t even aired a single episode. Fans are hoping that the new program can come close to matching the kind of popularity that ‘The Walking Dead’ has achieved on AMC. However, getting to know a whole new group of survivors might be a bit of a challenge unless they are people that are recognizable. And luckily for us, the new show has addded an actress from one of the most popular shows running, Elizabeth Rodriguez.
Although her name might not be immediately familiar, fans could very well remember Elizabeth Rodriguez for her role as Aleida Diaz on ‘Orange is the New Black’. She plays the mother of one of the more prominent characters on the show and is a strong figure in one of the larger factions inside the women’s correctional facility.
And if you don’t recognize her from that appearance, you may have seen her on other popular programs like ‘Grimm’, ‘Miami Vice’ (remake, not original) and ‘All My Children’. It’s that kind of established acting that will really help to bring even more validity to the cast of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ that already includes actors like Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens and Frank Dillane.
As of now, the name of the character that Elizabeth Rodriguez is not known. Since ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ has no basis in the comic book world, she could literally be just about anyone on the program. The good news is that she was made a series regular, which means that her role will be one that will make her a recurring character on the show.
On a personal note, I absolutely love ‘Orange is the New Black’. Some of my favorite scenes from that show involve Aleida Diaz fighting for her daughter and the people in the prison that look up to her. Elizabeth Rodriguez made a powerful impression on me during that time and it’s really exciting to me that she will be a part of the ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ universe.
‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is advertised to premiere during the summer of 2015 on AMC. Keep posted to Undead Walking for more details as they develop.
