The Walking Dead Season 6: What’s Next For Glenn Rhee?
By Adam Carlson
The sixth season of The Walking dead is inching closer to becoming a reality as filming has started in Georgia. Spoilers are already leaking out a bit, but sometimes it is hard to know what is going to happen next on the hit AMC program. Because of that, we can never know if our favorite characters are safe.
Personally, one of my favorite characters is Glenn Rhee. We’ve known him since season one of The Walking Dead and have seen him grow and develop into one of the strongest individuals on the show. Although he’s never killed a human being directly, he notched the most kills in season 5 and still has maintained his relationship with farmer’s daughter Maggie Greene.
So let’s dive into the pages of The Walking Dead’s comic books to see what could be in store for Glenn Rhee.
***WARNING: Comic Spoilers Below***
Many fans of The Walking Dead seem concerned about Glenn going into season 6 of The Walking Dead because of a certain man named Negan who is the leader of the saviors. However, if the comics are followed even loosely during the show’s sixth season, fans shouldn’t have to worry about that stuff happening quite yet.
Instead, in The Walking Dead’s comics, Glenn makes some suggestions to lure walkers away from the fences of Alexandria following the incident with the Scavengers (The Wolves). The walls tumble in as they attempt to get to Andrea (Sasha) in the sniper tower, yet he, Heath, and Spencer manage to fight through the carnage and get her to safety.
After the big fight with the walkers, Glenn is part of the clean up crew and comes across several of the townsfolk that didn’t survive the attack. He finds one prominent member of Alexandria and hesitates to pull the trigger. However, Abraham is more than willing to do that dirty work.
Glenn apologizes for being separated from Maggie and the two share a long, loving embrace and are glad that they both are alive to survive, but felt bad for those who they lost in the chaos. Maggie then asks Rick not to send Glenn on the dangerous supply missions.
Rick puts his faith in Glenn to be his ears around Alexandria. It doesn’t take long for Glenn to overhear a plot by Nicholas, Olivia and Spencer to overthrow Rick as the leader of the community. Glenn receives a beat down from Nicholas, who catches Glenn listening in and even holds a gun to his head. Glenn is able to escape after hitting Nicholas in the guts and immediately runs home to tell Maggie and Sophia to secure themselves in their home.
Later on, Nicholas is hanging out with Heath and Glenn appears. He puts Maggie’s gun to his head and warns him never to threaten his family again. And Rick does the same thing.
And that’s about it for what we should expect from Glenn during season 6 of The Walking Dead. While there is some speculation that the story could jump ahead to the Saviors, I do think that season 6 will instead focus on the transfer of power in Alexandria to Rick’s group and trying to cram in too much would be a big mistake.
What do you guys think? Do you think the comics do a good job of telling what is in store for Glenn during season 6 of The Walking Dead or will the show change things up and do something unexpected with him? Discuss it in the comments below.
