What Will ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Call The Infected?

With Fear The Walking Dead set to hit televisions this Summer, AMC and the show’s crew have been doing a great job of building anticipation for the program.  Many of the details of the show are under wraps, but one of the most simple things about the show seems to be under the tightest wraps.

Fans, including myself, are very curious what the zombies will be called on Fear The Walking Dead.  We know that they won’t be as rotten and decayed as on The Walking Dead.  On the original AMC show, we’ve heard names like “rotters”, “geeks”, “roamers”, “lurkers” and “biters”.  But will Fear The Walking Dead offer up a new name for the zombies?

In a recent interview with Yahoo TV, Fear The Walking Dead’s showrunner Dave Erickson spoke about what the new AMC show will call the members of the undead when the program premieres this Summer.  Here is what he had to say:

"“I’m going to surprise you. All I’ll say is this: I love the fact that in the comic and the original show, the vernacular, the language, varies depending on your community, your city, your state, whether it’s walkers or biters. The names that we’ll play with are kind of specific to what our characters experience as the story begins. Which is, if it seems to be a virus, it’s a contagion, are they infected? It will be in that world at first, and then I think it will approach something a little bit more apocalyptic. That will coalesce as the season plays out.”"

I think it’s pretty great that the name of the zombies for Fear The Walking Dead isn’t being revealed.  It is a great conversation topic among fans of The Walking Dead and one that the writers here at Undead Walking really love discussing.  The only thing that is assumed is that the name “zombie” will not be used.

There are several names that I think are absolutely great for the walkers on the show since they won’t be rotting or decayed at this point in time.  Here is a quick list of three of my favorites that I hope could be used:

  • Infected (my personal favorite)
  • Diseased
  • Chompers
