Fear The Walking Dead Has ‘Certain Rules’ To Follow

Fear The Walking Dead has a lot of unique things going for it.  It has a unique storyline to the series and doesn’t have the kind of precedent that the original series has from the hit comic book series.  While that might seem like it can open things up for anything to happen on the series, we have to remember that the show is still set in the same universe as AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Because of that relationship, there is an expectation with the show.  If something isn’t consistent with the way the walkers and the outbreak played out on the original AMC series, fans would have a very hard time buying in to the premise of Fear The Walking Dead.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Fear The Walking Dead’s showrunner Dave Erickson talked about the “rules” that are in place for the show when it premieres this Summer on AMC:

"“There are certain rules that have been set up and established in the first show that we can’t break from… We also need to make sure that we’re not stepping on each other’s story. There are a lot of people who know this world really well… so even if I were to miss something, [others] would jump on me in the first 30 seconds of the script going out.”"

And Erickson is absolutely right.  One slip up, no matter how minor, and the fan base will be all over the show.  In addition, the cast and the crew of the show would likely be able to squash any inconsistencies that are present in the scripts prior to them being filmed.

Hopefully, Fear The Walking Dead doesn’t make that kid of mistake during their first season.  But if they do, it’s easy to say that the rabid fans of the series will be quick to point out the flaws.  Despite that, it’s going to be interesting to see how the new series will handle the high expectations that have become to be expected with anything based on The Walking Dead.
