Jon Bernthal Cast As The Punisher In Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’

Things have been good for actors who have appeared on The Walking Dead.  With Michael Rooker starring in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films and Emily Kinney having a role on the hit show ‘The Flash’, it’s nice to hear about Jon Bernthal getting some love in Hollywood.

In a recent article on Marvel.com, they announced that Jon Bernthal would be playing the lead in the new film in the Punisher series.  Here’s what they had to say about the casting decision:

"“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”"

Jon Bernthal was a bright spot on The Walking Dead.  During his time on the show, he played the role of Shane Walsh, the partner to Rick Grimes on the police force prior to the outbreak.  Thanks to Bernthal, we got to see Shane evolve and grow as a character into an individual who wanted to be in control of the group to protect the survivors, specifically Rick’s wife and son.

I think that Jon Bernthal was a great choice to play The Punisher on Marvel’s Daredevil.  He has the grit and tone to carry the role of Frank Castle on the program and may entice another fan base to check out the popular series on Netflix.  I greatly enjoyed him as Shane on The Walking Dead and feel he can bring the same kind of intensity and intrigue to The Punisher.

Daredevil’s second season will air on Netflix in 2016, and that is when The Punisher is expected to make his debut on the show.
