Norman Reedus’ CMT Motorcycle Trip: Zen and the Art of the Selfie

Last Wednesday, Norman Reedus, fan favorite of AMC’s massively popular zombie show, The Walking Dead, presented at the CMT Music Awards, in Nashville, Tennessee.  His appearance as a presenter wasn’t the only big moment for Reedus fans.

“I wanted to be here so bad tonight, I rode my motorcycle from southern Georgia through Alabama through the mountains of Tennessee and the most beautiful countryside,” said Reedus. “And now I fully understand why such beautiful music was written and created in this magical place. Woo!”

That motorcycle trip included some stops in small towns that had phone cameras clicking as Norman graciously posed for selfies with employees of local McDonald’s and gas stations as well as passers-by on the street. He gave his signature thumbs up or point or peace sign or head nod, even while he was on the phone himself. Twitter is full of photos and tweets from lucky fans excited about their pictures and boasting about his upbeat and kind nature.

Selfies were also tweeted by celebrity fans of Reedus in the audience of the awards show. Country music lovers and performers and even Arnold Schwarzenegger were thrilled to be on the same tiny screen as their favorite crossbow-carrying zombie slayer.

Daryl Dixon once wondered if he was the only one Zen around here. I think Norman is a little Zen himself in his zest for life, motorcycles and the solitude of the open roads juxtaposed with the cozy and crazy human connection on the stops along the way that include the solitary sounding word–selfie.
