What Ever Happened to The Walking Dead’s Dr. Edwards of Grady Memorial?
We may never know exactly what transpired for Dr. Stephen Edwards, the sole practitioner at The Walking Dead’s Grady Memorial Hospital. Given the opportunity to join Rick’s group after Dawn was eliminated, the Grady gang chose to stay behind instead. While we may never learn the fate of Dr. Edwards, we can certainly find out what the actor who portrayed him, Erik Jensen, has been doing lately.
We can learn just that here in an article by Gavin Edwards for Rolling Stone magazine regarding Erik Jensen’s latest project. It turns out that Mr. Jensen is portraying the role of rock critic, Lester Bangs, in the play, aptly titled, “How to Be a Rock Critic”, created by Jensen and his wife, Jessica Blank. While Erik channels Lester Bangs on stage, his wife, Jessica, directs the production. The Rolling Stone article shares that the play opens on June 17th at the Kirk Douglas Theater in Los Angeles. The article goes on to explain the lengthy process involved in researching the life of Mr. Bangs, who passed away in 1982. We are also reminded that Lester Bangs was portrayed on the big screen as well by Philip Seymour Hoffman in Cameron Crowe’s film Almost Famous.
I would say this is the perfect setting for the man behind the role of Dr. Edwards. In The Walking Dead, we learned that Dr. Edwards was a fan of vinyl. Erik is quick to share in interviews and on Twitter that he, too, collects and appreciates vinyl. From playing doctor/music connoisseur on The Walking Dead to playing rock critic Lester Bangs on stage, Mr. Jensen keeps the music going!
Finally, rumor has it that some of the current and former cast members of The Walking Dead have been talking about drumming up some music of their own collectively, maybe at the popular fan convention Walker Stalker Con???
