The Walking Dead Season 6: The First Speculated Casualty
By Adam Carlson
AMC’s sixth season of The Walking Dead is still quite a long time away, but it’s never too early to listen to some of the rumors and speculations around the internet. And what is more fun to think about than the life or death of the survivors on the popular zombie survival drama?
Because of that, there are always people trying to figure out who will be the next survivor to eat the dust. And sometimes, the idea of a casualty could be something more than just an individual.
Michael Ausiello over on the TVLine website believes that he already knows the first casualty for season 6, but found an interesting way to answer a question that was asked on his weekly spoiler column.
"“Question: Anything on Season 6 of The Walking Dead? —GerryAusiello: Yup. I think I may already be able to reveal the first casualty of the season: new guy Kirk’s innocence. Casting intel describes the mid-twentysomething married man — as yet uncast — as a Mr. Nice Guy who, over and over, gets the same message from cruel fate: Do unto others before they can do unto you. And since whoever’s hired for the recurring role has to be available for future seasons — but there’s no such requirement placed on the actresses vying for the part of his wife, Hilda — it seems safe to speculate that losing the missus will eventually push him over the edge. Or am I reaching here?”"
Personally, I think this is a BIG reach. We all know that innocence is one thing that never lasts on The Walking Dead and that is especially true when it comes to a recently introduced character. However, even a character that is put into a moral dilemma can find some way of keeping themselves mentally able to move forward.
Glenn made it through season 5 of The Walking Dead without killing a single human being. Father Gabriel is attempting to find his faith again despite being tested by the horrors of everything around him. And Tara still has that light-hearted free will that makes her endearing. Examples like this prove that not everyone has to make major changes to their attitude or methodology in order to continue living.
In the end, I think of this much less as a spoiler or rumor than a theory. Yes, moral compasses don’t have a great history on The Walking Dead, but hopefully that trend could change and AMC could have the new character going by the current name “Kirk” remain innocent. Then again, Mr. Ausiello could be hitting the nail right on the head with his speculation.
