The Walking Dead’s Season 6 Premiere To Be ‘A Puzzle’

Creating a show like The Walking Dead must be one of the most challenging tasks for a television crew.  The bar is set extremely high for every single episode, but expectations are always astronomical for the show’s premieres and finales.

For last year’s premiere for season 5, we were treated to an intense episode that featured Carol taking down Terminus and reuniting the group.  The episode featured hundreds of walkers, many human deaths, some great confrontations, and, of course, the emotional moment of seeing everyone back together.

It would be easy to call that episode “bold”, but special effects genius, director, and executive producer Greg Nicotero doesn’t throw that word around lightly.  However, in a recent video of Nicotero at the Saturn Awards he used that word to describe what to expect when The Walking Dead returns this October to AMC.

Here is the video from ColliderVideos’ YouTube account:

A couple highlights of the video include Nicotero talking about the inspiration for the first ever episode of The Walking Dead and how difficult it is to create such an original feel each season.

"“In season one, Night of the Living Dead was sort of our holy grail. We were striving to make something as meaningful as that material, and I think that six years in, not only do we continue to do it but we do it better. It gets harder every year, but we don’t back down. I feel like our skeletons are just stripped of every emotion because we try so hard to keep the show fresh and keep the show original.”"

The Walking Dead has done a great job of keeping things interesting and fresh over the seasons.  Each season has a distinct feel to it that leaves a lasting impression on viewers.  Greg Nicotero feels that the season 6 premiere is bold, but also a puzzle that will come together for viewers.

"“What I love what we’re doing about the season premiere of this one is, it’s bold. We want our audience to think and they get to put together the puzzle that we are presenting to them, knowing that by the end of the episode that they will have arrived at the conclusion that we want them to arrive at.”"

AMC is set to have The Walking Dead return for season 6 this October.
