Battle Plan for The Walking Dead Hiatus
Waiting for the next season of The Walking Dead is no easy task! Does it make you feel like a downtrodden, exhausted Daryl slumped down on the ground in the middle of an intersection unable to find Beth? I am reminded of the Walker Withdrawals referred to in Susan Graham’s article in the spring. She solicited feedback on how we planned to deal with said withdrawals, so I decided to share my progress!
And you, too, can pull yourself up by Carol’s bootstraps and strategically map out the rest of your wait in hopes of easing the stress. (That’s if you don’t encounter Claimer Joe first . . . Yikes!!)
Here’s my personal battle plan currently in use for making it to the Season 6 premiere:
April
I basked in the hype from the season finale for several weeks — podcasts, recaps, interviews, and analyzing with friends.
May
Filming began! There was a renewed energy knowing the cast was back at work. Getting a tweet from Michael Cudlitz in the hair chair was a welcome sight. We knew the ‘stache was back!
I watched for Tweets from Senoia Coffee and Cafe (stand-in for Woodbury Coffeehouse in season 3) and wondered if anyone had stopped by for a frozen coffee drink in the GA heat! They always post pics if they do!
June
Here’s where the real dry spell began — waiting around for any promo photos and the new poster. You would not believe (okay, you probably can!) how much I analyzed the recent SDCC poster for The Walking Dead. I can have full length discussions about said poster. And thank goodness I live in Atlanta so I can take an occasional drive down to Senoia. One look at those industrial steel Alexandria walls and my heart skips a beat! Maybe you live near a city where a convention is held in the summer. That would certainly help pass the time indeed! The arrival of Periscope has also made June a little more bearable. You can see the likes of former and current The Walking Dead actors on Periscope broadcasts. Josh McDermitt, Jordan Woods-Robinson, and Daniel Bonjour have all shared the love via periscope! June can be tough, but we gain momentum in July.
July
Now usually we have the “Dead White & Blue” Weekend to keep us pumped, but apparently not so this year. Why, AMC, why?? So, I’ll hold out for the SDCC coverage and the release of the first trailer for season 6. Now I can get a lot of mileage out of that! Re-watch, rewind, slow-mo, take notes (Yvette Nicole Brown style!) and dream about what will be revealed to us in a couple of months. I guess the trailer will have to carry me into August where I can only hope that Fear The Walking Dead has a release date “early” in the month!
August
Fear The Walking Dead will make its debut – episodes, recaps, podcasts, discussion! Meeting new characters might ease our longing for our originals at least a little. Also, per a recent Undead Walking article by Adam Carlson August will give us the release of The Walking Dead Season 5 on DVD with all its special features in tow. Yes, please!
September
Our pals at Netflix Life are betting that Season 5 will hit Netflix in September to relieve some of those hunger pangs for The Walking Dead! And from there I plan to glide into October and start prepping for my season premiere party with my own #TWD crew!!! Here’s a pic of our festivities from the Season 5 finale — a good old-fashioned “Welcome to Alexandria” party behind our own version of “the wall”.
I hope the trailer gives me some inspiration for this year’s theme.
Whew! So, that’s my plan. How are YOU gonna make it!? Please share below!!
