Working on a project like AMC’s The Walking Dead has its perks.  The success of the show helps land credibility to the names of anyone attached to the show, and that is no different for Ernest R. Dickerson.

Dickerson has directed 11 episodes of The Walking Dead, including fan favorites and emotional episodes like Coda, Self-Help, Too Far Gone, and Wildfire.  Now, he’ll have the opportunity to be the lead director for the upcoming sci-fi cable series titled Hunters.

The show will feature a character named Nathan Phillips whose wife goes missing.  Phillips is a detective in Philadelphia who used to work for the FBI.  However, he now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and is experiencing hallucinations that keep getting worse.  His investigation uncovers many secrets, including discovering a very strange group of “hunters” that go after known terrorists.

The show will begin filming in Melbourne, Australia later this month according to the IF Magazine website.  The project stars Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) and Britne Oldford (American Horror Story, Ravenswood).  The show is written by Natalie Chaidez (Heroes,Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).  The story is based on the novel Alien Hunter by Whitley Strieber and has been given the green light for a 13 episode first series.

In addition to The Walking Dead, Ernest R. Dickerson is known for his work on hit shows like Dexter, Treme, and The Wire as well as movies such as Juice, Demon Knight, and Surviving The Game.  His track record of success as well as working with established base material means that Hunters could be a success if executed properly.

At this time, there is no known date for a premiere of Hunters.  We’ll keep you up to date when more information is available.
