The Walking Dead’s Nicotero: The plan is a zombie show 52 weeks a year
By Susie Graham
When the
caught up with Greg Nicotero at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about Fear the Walking Dead, he teased that “the plan is to have a zombie TV show on 52 weeks a year.”
AMC has committed to a second season of the new show, set in Los Angeles, which premieres its 6-episode first season on August 23rd, leading into the 6th season of the original The Walking Dead.
They begin filming the expanded 15-episode second season of Fear The Walking Dead in November or December. While I believe Nicotero was joking about 52 weeks, there will be the possibility of a zombie show on for about eight week bursts with 5 week breaks. But we won’t call the zombies in any of those zombie shows zombies!
Chris Hardwick, who was also at Comic-Con let us know that this season there would be one episode of Talking Dead for Fear the Walking Dead. It will simply be called Talking Dead and will air for the finale of Fear. He seemed to think that the response of the audience to Fear the Walking Dead might determine if Talking Dead would possibly be expanded to a more regular basis in the second season,
So while the plan is a zombie show 52 weeks of the year, we’ll have to wait and see if that plan includes our favorite “talking about the zombie show” during those same 52 weeks.
Hard to believe that the spin-off or companion series that we’ve been waiting for is almost ready to come to our television screens. That we’ve actually seen real trailers for it. Real photos of real walkers. It’s so exciting. I hope it is everything we’ve been expecting. I have a feeling with the people involved it’s going to be even better than we could have imagined.
