If you watch The Walking Dead, you know that Danai Gurira plays

Michonne

, and you also know that you

do not

come between Michonne and her katana.

You may not know that besides being a talented actress, Danai Gurira is also a playwright. She’s been in movies, she’s been on Broadway, and she has taught playwriting and acting in Liberia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Her list of accomplishments is far too numerous to include here, but you can click here if you’d like to learn more. Needless to say, Danai Gurira is a very talented, very smart woman.

As some of you may know, Danai is a co-founder of a dramatic arts organization in Zimbabwe called Almasi Arts Alliance, whose goal is to “help professionalize the Dramatic Arts industry in Zimbabwe through education, facilitation and collaboration with professional American Dramatic Artists and Artistic Institutions.” Click here to go to their website.

Now, to say that fans of The Walking Dead tend to have a rather high level of devotion (to put it conservatively) to the show, to the cast and crew and to the causes that those cast and crew members stand behind is probably an understatement. The Twitter hashtag #TWDFamily is not just for show. No, we’re a pretty intense group.

So if you were Danai Gurira and you wanted to raise money for a charity that you co-founded, how do you think you would go about it? Well of course, fans of TWD are very generous people, and I’m sure that we would have supported her even without potentially winning something. But just like everything else in life, if you find the right motivation, you can get people to be even more generous. Everyone loves the chance to win a prize. Some kind of official The Walking Dead… something or other. We live for that stuff!

How about the chance to be put into “walker makeup,” and have some pictures taken? Sounds great, right? I’m sure lots of people would donate to this worthy charity for the chance to win the walker photo session.

But wait, there’s more!

How about a photo session in walker makeup

and

some weapons training, including the chance to learn how to shoot a crossbow? You

know

that will come in handy in case of a real zombie apocalypse. Are you ready to donate to Danai’s charity yet? Hang on, I’m not finished.

How about both of the prizes I’ve already mentioned, plus you’re doing it all in Walking Dead country? The prize also includes a trip for two to Atlanta to tour some of the famous sites from the show! (Remember that ultimate Walking Dead fan vacation that I took a few weeks ago? Wouldn’t you like to see it all in person? I just hope for the winner’s sake that it will be in a cooler month than when I was there.)

I’ll bet I have your attention now for sure, don’t I?

Shall we add something else? How about all of the above plus you get to have lunch with Danai, and maybe even some of her friends from the cast. We know they’re pretty close… who knows who’ll be there!

By this point, you know I’m going to tell you there’s more, right? As a matter of fact, yes, I’ve saved the best part for last. Arguably the best part of this mammoth prize is a trip that includes hotel and airfare for two people to the New York premiere event of The Walking Dead season six at Madison Square Gardens… and you go home with a “go bag” of gear to help you survive any potential zombie apocalypse in the future.

I know, pick your jaw up off the floor. It has to be too good to be true, right? There’s definitely a reason why this contest is listed as “the ultimate The Walking Dead fan experience.” Surely you have to donate a lot of money to even have a chance to win something so completely mind-blowing.

Would you believe me if I told you that you can get one entry into this contest for $10? No? I kid you not. Granted, if you donate more money, you get more entries, of course. The $10 donation level, called the “Biter” level, doesn’t come with any extras, but the higher dollar amounts do.

The donation levels that come with something besides the entry itself start at the $25 “Walker” level (which is just above “Biter”), which comes with a digital thank you card from Danai and three entries toward the grand prize.

The top donation level is the $1,000 “Warrior” level, which comes with a signed t-shirt, a signed photo of Danai as Michonne, a shout out on Twitter, a video thank you from Danai, a digital thank you from Danai, and 150 entries towards that grand prize.

And of course, if you want to donate something in between $25 and $1,000, there are $50, $100 and $500 donation levels as well, each with slightly different extras and varying numbers of entries into the grand prize contest.

To donate to this very worthy cause of Danai’s and potentially get something really cool for yourself, click here.

Have I already made my donation? You’d better believe it! Will this opportunity last forever? No way, so get right on it before the walkers get you!
