The Walking Dead: Gale Anne Hurd on Negan questions

Fans who have read the comic books for The Walking Dead are looking forward to the debut of Negan, a foul-mouthed villain who

In a recent interview discussed on the Digital Spy website, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd talked about the great things about Fear the Walking Dead, and that included not having source material to follow.  And she used one VERY specific example during her discussion.

Here is what she had to say:

"“It’s something that Robert Kirkman very much wanted to do, so that there isn’t that expectation from a fanbase. We won’t get questions like, ‘When’s Negan going to show up?’ – which if I hear that one more time, I’m going to go crazy! – and at the same time there’s no roadmap, so it allows us to really surprise the audience.”"

Personally, I can’t blame her.  As a reader of the comic books, I’m also looking forward to Negan’s debut on AMC’s The Walking Dead, but the amount of hype that the character has for his debut has reached astronomical levels.  Everyone in the media has been hounding the actors about whether or not Negan will appear in season 6 and what that means for some of the characters who end up in his crosshairs in The Walking Dead’s comics.

Sadly, the hype train on Negan isn’t going to slow down or stop any time soon.  The cast and crew of The Walking Dead will have to keep hearing about this future character until he finally does appear on the small screen.  And then, the challenge of having the character live up to the hype could be nearly impossible.

It seems like a lose-lose situation for AMC.  Then again, The Walking Dead can’t do much wrong these days, so I’ll never count them out.
