Norman Reedus wants solitude after filming The Walking Dead
By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead is a family. The cast, the crew, and even the fans come together and form one big, happy family. Sometimes they disagree. Other times they cry together. But like any family, some alone time is needed and one of the biggest proponents of that is Norman Reedus.
Reedus seems to be everywhere in the media these days. As one of the most popular characters on The Walking Dead, he is in high demand from most magazines and television shows. Not only that, but following filming sessions for the hit AMC program, many of his co-workers want to hang out or get a drink.
Norman Reedus doesn’t want to do that. At all.
While he’s a lot of fun in interviews and enjoys hanging out with fellow cast members outside of work, following a day’s work he is more likely to go home than go out. In a recent interview on the Red Bulletin website, Norman Reedus spoke about what happens when filming wraps and the cast and crew are free to leave. Here is what he said:
"“I’m one of those people who when I’m done with work I don’t want to talk to anyone. It’s not, ‘let’s go out for drinks.’ It’s ‘f**k you guys, I’ll see you in the morning.’”"
Of course, Reedus’ words are a bit abrasive, but this is coming from the man who greets people with his middle finger and licks his friends. Personally, I have no issue with the man who plays Daryl Dixon needing some alone time after work. He is a bit of a wild card, much like the character that he plays on The Walking Dead.
But don’t interpret his need for some personal time as a knock on his co-workers or a dislike for the job. He’s very thankful for the opportunity that AMC’s The Walking Dead has brought to him considering how unpredictable his income was in the past.
"“This is the first job where I’m making money and I know I’m going back. I’ve always lived hand-to- hand, and job-to-job. It’s nice to have a 9-5 instead of trying to find a job to pay the rent this month and doing an art show to pay the rent the next.”"
I think we’ve all reached that point in the day where all you want to do is get home, kick off your work clothes, get comfortable and just do whatever you want. That’s what I picture Norman Reedus doing. After all, he is human, just like the rest of us.
