The Walking Dead: Road To Survival gets help from YouTube’s PewDiePie

The folks at Scopely and Skybound tapped into an interesting source to advertise the new mobile game The Walking Dead: Road To Survival.
Many mobile games use conventional methods of advertising. We’ve seen advertisements on television, in magazines, and even pop-ups on social media for popular games like Clash of Clans, Hay Day, and even Candy Crush. However, there was an interesting idea that came forward that utilized a unique method of marketing: target the gaming community on YouTube.
PewDiePie is one of the most popular channels on YouTube. He has approximately 40 million subscribers to his channel and focuses on having a unique video game commentary that appeals to both casual and hardcore gamers. Scopely enlisted the man behind the channel, Felix Kjellberg, to get a zombie makeover and play the game on his channel for his followers.

As of the time of this post, the YouTube video above has been viewed over 3.4 million times and has accumulated over 14,000 comments. For many people on PewDiePie’s YouTube channel, this may have been the first time that they had seen The Walking Dead: Road To Survival in action, making this a hugely successful sponsorship.
Fans have responded very well to this game, downloading The Walking Dead: Road To Survival over four million times in the first one week with the weekend alone netting 2.5 million of those downloads. Since the PewDiePie video was released on Friday, August 28, 2015, it is not unlikely that this partnership resulted in a large number of players getting the game.
