The Walking Dead season 6: Tom Payne cast as Jesus
By Adam Carlson
The news of casting on AMC’s The Walking Dead is still running wild. First, the supposed casting call for Negan, and now the individual cast as comic book favorite Jesus has been named.
According to The Wrap, Tom Payne will play Jesus, whose real name in the comics is Paul Monroe.
Paul Monroe makes his first appearance in issue 91 of The Walking Dead‘s comic book series. Goes on to play a major role in the comics, one that I won’t spoil here for fans of the hit AMC show. However, the casting for Tom Payne is an interesting choice for several reasons.
Payne had a solid acting history, being a part of popular television shows like Skins, Waterloo Road, and Luck, but he might be best remembered for his role as Rob Cole in the movie The Physician.
The 33-year-old Payne does have some things that already have people a bit on edge. According to IMDB, Tom Payne stands 5’8″, which is significantly shorter than some comic book fans think he should be.
Despite the height issue, I’m interested to see what Payne can bring to the character of Jesus on The Walking Dead. Jesus is one of three upcoming characters (Jesus, Negan, and Dwight) that I’m really looking forward to seeing translated onto the small screen.
You can see Tom Payne as Jesus during season 6 of The Walking Dead, which kicks off on AMC beginning October 11, 2015.
