The Walking Dead: All-Star baseball team
With the Major League Baseball post-season upon us and still a couple of more weeks to wait for The Walking Dead season 6 premiere, why not take a few moments to consider which characters would be best suited for an all-star baseball team? This could be fun! Sit back and consider the following lineup.
Pitcher: RICK
We’ve all seen his crazy eyes, so we know he has the ability to stare down and intimidate his opponent. Between his eyes and signature head tilt, you sense he is ready to throw a zinger. And remember in the season 2’s ‘Nebraska’ episode how quickly he took out Dave in front of him and Tony behind him?! The pitcher has to be watching for a base stealer behind him while also focusing on the pitch to the batter in front of him. Rick is golden.
Catcher: DARYL
Okay, this is not the comics, people. We know that in the television series, Darly is Rick’s right hand man, not Tyreese. Plus we’re going with a living lineup. We have seen Rick and Daryl communicate with a mere nod or glance. That will be of benefit as they select pitches. And if Rick, our pitcher, needs someone to come to his defense, his “brother” Daryl will most certainly rush the mound!!
First Base: SPENCER
I’m going to go out on a limb here and select Spencer because he is tall. We don’t know a lot about him yet, but his height will make him a clear target for players throwing to first.
Shortstop: GLENN
As a former pizza delivery guy, Glenn is quick on his feet. And surely you recall the agility with which he navigated the alleyways and stairwells in Atlanta. Glenn is also a seasoned strategist and can use that talent on the field.
Second Base: MAGGIE
She gets to play next to Glenn! Enough said.
Third Base: ABRAHAM
Abraham’s size and strength make him well-suited for covering third base and making long throws across the field.
Center Field: MICHONNE
Michonne’s proven finesse and speed will serve her well as she runs in for those pop-ups and delivers them to the infield.
Right Field: NICHOLAS
Why? Because that’s where Glenn told him to play, that’s why!
Left Field: HEATH
New character Heath has those Superman style eyeglasses, so I’m going to assume he has Superman’s visual acuity that will help him spot those fly balls.
Pinch Runner: SASHA
As a former firefighter who would have to run in and out of burning buildings, I’m guessing speed is on her side.
Designated Hitter: MORGAN
Remember how he came in and rescued Daryl and Aaron from the Del Arno Foods walkers? Morgan can certainly swoop in and save the day. I mean he fights with a wooden stick anyway, it might as well be a baseball bat, am I right?
Bat Boy: CARL
Why? He’s a boy, despite Rick having proclaimed that he is a man. We could use Sam, but he would be too easily distracted by the cookies at the concession stand.
Finally, we’ll need some supporting staff.
Third Base Coach: CAROL
She is secretly calling the shots in Alexandria anyway, so why not on the baseball field as well? She is a puppet master of sorts who will gladly tell her runners when to stay or go. For example, do you recall her telling Rick “not now” when Pete first stumbled into the town meeting? Well, there you go!
Scout/Recruiter: AARON
That’s just what he does, right?
Press Box: EUGENE and TARA
Eugene can say a lot in one breath and every commentator needs a sassy, funny sidekick.
There you have it — The Walking Dead 2015 All Star Baseball Team! I hope you like these picks. And, if not, give me some feedback in the comments section. And, finally, thanks to my all-star husband, Rob Phillipps, for giving me great descriptions of all the positions so I could make informed lineup selections!
