On the season finale of Fear the Walking Dead, one of the most shocking moments came when Adams stepped out of the shadows after the group seemed safe. Andrew Adams and Ofelia Salazar had a quick and interesting relationship on Fear the Walking Dead.

They seemed to care for each other in a way that might have been the start of a friendship or a relationship in other circumstances, but there were other things that got in the way. He was the path to something she desperately needed–medicine for her mother. She can use his attraction to her to help her mother.

Then her mother gets essentially kidnapped in their eyes. Although Griselda was getting medical help, the Salazars were in the dark and were separated from her. In Daniel’s eyes there is no law or government any longer. He is back to his old methods of survival and extracting information.

Salazar’s lies to his daughter about his ways in El Salvador continue into El Sereno. Ofelia thinks Daniel is going to orchestrate a trade for Griselda. To do something to get her mother back that doesn’t include hurting her new friend.

That’s not what happened. Now they have plans to get Nick and Griselda and escape. Many skinbags and maneuvers later, they are almost out of the compound.

Adams steps out of the shadows and calls out Salazar’s name holding a gun, ready to exact his revenge on Daniel for mutilating his arm and forcing him to betray his unit by giving them the information about Cobalt. Ofelia’s sweet voice caused him to hesitate. She begs him not to do it. To please put down the gun.

Adams surprised us all by shifting his aim. He shoots Ofelia. I believe he shot Ofelia because he wanted to exact his revenge on Daniel and if Ofelia continued to beg, he feared he might drop the gun. If not for Travis stepping in, I believe Daniel would have received the next shot.

I don’t know if Adams thought that once Daniel was gone, he’d have a chance with Ofelia, but I believe he wounded Ofelia out of instinct to shut her up so he could go through with his plan to shoot Daniel.

A quick and doomed relationship that in its innocent complexity saved many of our new Fear family.
