It has been teased that issue #150 of Skybound and Image Comics popular series The Walking Dead will feature a betrayal, but who will turn their back?

The Walking Dead has hit a major crossroads. Rick Grimes is losing control of his people and the problems surrounding Alpha and her daughter Lydia are making a big divide among the population. With so many people heartbroken and struggling, the entire community is fractured and all it would take is one more incident to sent everyone over the edge.

Issue #150 is titled “Betrayal” and that title could have so many meanings. Not only that, but the issue will have 30 pages of content, making it one of the largest in the series history. It has also been teased by the facebook page of The Walking Dead that this issue will be “huge” in the scope of things.

The major question going into #150 isn’t whether or not there will be a betrayal, but who will do the betraying and how much of an impact it will have on the future of the comics.

With Rick Grimes going to Negan for advice about how to be the leader of a community, we can assume that he would be willing to do just about anything to bring everyone together again. That might include doing something incredibly back-handed.

One theory surrounding the issue involves Rick taking a group of Alexandrians to scout the around the area where Alpha made the fence as a boundary between the two communities. Once there, Rick could decide to slaughter the rest of his entire group and blame it on The Whisperers in order to focus everyone on attacking Alpha and her people.

While this wouldn’t be morally or ethically right, it would be a strong tactical move. It could even be something that Negan has planted into Rick’s mind while they discussed what it means to be a leader. Negan would have no problem pulling off a plan like this, but is Rick so desperate to unite Alexandria that he would be willing to slaughter some of his own people and blame it on The Whisperers?

The art on the front cover of the book makes this theory a real possibility, as Rick appears to be covered in blood and standing with a strange look on his face.

Keep in mind this is just a theory and right now the actual events of next month’s comics are unknown. We’ll find out what the true “Betrayal” is when The Walking Dead issue #150 is released on January 13th, 2016
