The Walking Dead: Midseason premiere leads to a larger world
By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead’s season 6 midseason premiere will be epic, but it will help set the stage for a much larger world on the AMC zombie survival drama.
Tomorrow, AMC will air the midseason premiere for The Walking Dead‘s sixth season. With a lot of focus being placed on that one episode, it is easy to lose track of the bigger picture of how AMC is trying to show the zombie apocalypse to be.
Focusing on the intimate details of Rick’s group as well as the other survivors in Alexandria seems overwhelming at times, but there is quite a bit happening outside of those walls that viewers don’t get to see. Thankfully, once things settle down regarding the current situation, we may get to know a bit of what lurks in the world around the walled community.

Thanks to an article on The Hollywood Reporter’s website, we now know that while Sunday’s midseason premiere of The Walking Dead will be epic, it is only a taste of what is in store for our favorite survivors of the zombie apocalypse.
Here is what The Walking Dead‘s creator Robert Kirkman said about Sunday’s episode and the future of the series:
"“It will really set the stage for what’s going to come and the many seasons that will hopefully come after this,” Kirkman said, calling Sunday’s midseason premiere ‘a very big turning point in the series.'”"
Thinking about a turning point in the series before such an anticipated episode is hard, but it makes sense. Learning to survive in almost any situation can be difficult, and Rick figuring out how to protect himself and his people will be a big part of the show’s future.
"“Rick’s group has an extremely deep knowledge base and skill set on how to survive that a lot of people [at Alexandria] don’t have,” Gimple tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The second half, we answer the questions: ‘What do they do with that power? What is their responsibility? How can they create a future? What does that look like?’ You see the billboards and ads about this this larger world … they are going to find that the world wasn’t exactly what they thought it was in every way — in very practical ways and even in philosophical ways — and how are they going to handle that.”"

But there are some things that you just can’t handle. For example, Rick and the gang can’t control who already lives around the area where Alexandria stands and he will have to deal with whatever unexpected things they do. There was no way to prepare for situations like what happened at Terminus or Grady Memorial Hospital in the past, but it will be fun to watch the survivors try to figure things out.
"“We’re always trying to show that there’s a larger world out there,” exec producer Greg Nicotero tells THR. “It’s not just about what’s inside the walls of Alexandria. What we’ve done in the first half of the season is show, yes, it’s a larger world and there are a lot of threats out there — we had the Wolves and the walkers — and there are a lot of unknowns out there.”"
