The Walking Dead: Jeffrey Dean Morgan is perfect as Negan
By Adam Carlson
The hype around Negan’s debut on AMC’s The Walking Dead is reaching astronomical levels, much of that is thanks to the casting of Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
When it was announced that Negan would be making his first appearance on AMC’s The Walking Dead during the sixth season, fans went crazy with enthusiasm. Readers of the comic book know that his introduction means that the world as viewers know it on the hit television show is about to change.
One of the most important things when it comes to pulling off a character of that magnitude is to find an actor worthy of the role. Many big names circulated as potential casting options, including Jon Hamm and Henry Rollins, but eventually it was announced that Jeffrey Dean Morgan of Supernatural, The Goo Wife and Watchmen would get the job.

At first, the response was mixed among the fan base or The Walking Dead, but eventually fans came around after seeing how excited Morgan was about the role. But fans weren’t the only ones excited about it, as the series creator Robert Kirkman might just be the biggest fan or having Jeffrey Dean Morgan being Negan according to Nerdist.com.
"“As far as Jeffrey goes…The glee that he had in the idea of being able to play this role was perfect for this role. The glee that he showed is so similar to the kind of id that Negan displays. It isn’t just that, physically, he resembles him. Jeffrey’s enthusiasm mirrors the character’s enthusiasm.”"

Appearance has never really been a huge deal on The Walking Dead. In fact, some of the biggest villains on the show look absolutely nothing like their comic book counterparts. The most notable example of this is The Governor, who looked completely different from the comic pages to the small screen but still was a very effective character.
Instead, focusing on the mannerisms, gestures, and temperament of Negan could be what really helps define him.
"“Negan is an extremely enthusiastic character; he’s not subtle. There really aren’t a lot of half measures. He’s a bull in a china shop, and the china shop is the world. And he’s not very concerned about what he breaks. I saw Jeffrey’s smile and I said, ‘Oh, that’s Negan’s smile.’ Well this is exciting.”"
