Fear The Walking Dead already talking midseason cliffhanger
By Adam Carlson
The word “cliffhanger” has become a swear word to fans of The Walking Dead, but now it appears as though Fear The Walking Dead will leave fans hanging too.
Coming off the heels of one of the biggest cliffhangers in AMC’s history, The Walking Dead has a lot of fans gathering the townsfolk, lighting their torches, and preparing to riot. However, that won’t stop the people behind the companion series Fear The Walking Dead from doing cliffhangers of their own.
According to an article on The Hollywood Reporter’s website, Fear The Walking Dead showrunner Dave Erickson loves the way that The Walking Dead does things. He felt that the season 6 finale “ending was awesome” and doesn’t mind that fans be left wondering what happened or what is going to happen next.
"“You want something monumental that will beg people to come back. You also need something that feels organic and driven. The ideal cliffhanger, the ideal churn for any show — and this can be a novel or a TV show or a movie — but you want it to feel inevitable. You want that moment of shock and surprise but when you catch your breath, you want to feel that yes, there’s no other way that could have gone down. That’s always the goal.”"
But sadly, Fear The Walking Dead hasn’t gotten viewers hooked yet the way that The Walking Dead has and a frustrating midseason finale may do more to discourage viewers from returning rather than entice them to return for the next episode or talk about it at the watercooler the next day.

Still, Erickson has the right idea when it comes to building toward a major event for both midseason and season finales. Fans should feel rewarded for watching a season of a show, as if something changed the dynamic of the entire series and they got to be there to experience that along with the actors.
"“So yes, in that regard, when we get to the writers’ room and start building out a season, it’s always with an eye toward something that is going to close out that chapter and make the first seven episodes feel satisfying but also something that in so doing it also lays the seeds for what’s going to come in the back half.”"
But, when it comes to there being a cliffhanger for Fear The Walking Dead‘s midseason finale, Erickson had no problem confirming that there will be one.
"“The short answer is … yes.”"

You can catch Fear The Walking Dead Sunday nights on AMC at 9 pm/8c where the story of the Clark, Manawa, and Salazar families as well as that of Victor Strand will continue to be told as the group is out to sea. With the threat of undead everywhere and not knowing if people are friends or foes, it should be a great time to get to know the survivors on board Strand’s ship Abigail.
