Fear The Walking Dead: Ratings dip for season 2 premiere
By Adam Carlson
Ratings numbers are down for Fear The Walking Dead entering the zombie survival drama’s second season on AMC, making some concerned about the show’s future.
While AMC’s zombie survival drama companion series Fear The Walking Dead won the overall ratings war for Sunday’s live and same day viewers for the season 2 premiere, not everything is coming up roses for the record-breaking program.
In fact, things might not be looking that great at all. Despite the promotion of Flight 462 promos during The Walking Dead‘s sixth season, tireless advertising, and promises of life at sea during Fear The Walking Dead‘s second season, the show only registered “a 3.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.7 million total viewers in Nielsen’s ‘live plus same-day’ averages” according to Variety.

Why is 3.1 is a bad thing? Well, normally shows would kill for those kind of ratings, but a big show like Fear The Walking Dead that is hoping to follow in its predecessor’s footsteps it isn’t good. And it’s even more concerning when you factor in that the season 2 premiere has received the smallest “live plus same-day” in the series history, including all 6 episodes of season 1, which had bigger numbers.
There are several reasons why the numbers might be down. Maybe fans aren’t as interested in the series as they were in the past. Perhaps the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead left a sour taste in some fans’ mouths. Or possibly it is just an anomaly and the numbers will bounce back next week.
No matter what the reason is, AMC should be taking notice and wondering why fans aren’t tuning in like expected. The network has invested a lot of time, effort, and money into making sure that Fear The Walking Dead can succeed and possibly even surpass its parent series, but judging by the numbers for the season 2 premiere, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
