The Walking Dead’s season 6 finale was ‘painful’ and ‘horrifying’ according to actress Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on the AMC zombie survival drama.

While fans of The Walking Dead are aggressively trying to figure out the cliffhanger from the show’s season 6 finale, there were so many other things going on in the episode that got overlooked because of the big ending.

According to a recent The Wall Street Journal interview of Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on the show, it was the sense of powerless and being at the mercy of Negan and The Saviors that was the real heartbreaking moment from the episode.

Here is the interview with The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira as hosted on The Wall Street Journal’s website:

Seeing the lineup of 11 major characters on AMC’s The Walking Dead all listening to Negan talk about killing someone to make a point not only made viewers upset to their stomach, but it was also unsettling to the actors on set as well. For them, it will signal losing a friend on set and changing the entire dynamic of filming.

"“We had gone through the process of overcoming so many folks. You know from the cannibals who were trying to eat us to the Governor. We had developed an ability to work it through and we hit a dead end…It was horrifying because you know something imminent is about to happen and you’re completely out of control, and for these characters like Rick and Michonne, to not be in control is just, it’s the most painful thing.”"

Speaking of filming, that part of the scene with Negan wasn’t easy either, according to Gurira. Not only was the weather not cooperating, but the ground wasn’t exactly the most comfortable thing to kneel on for two days.

"“It was intense. It was a 2-day shoot, it was freezing cold. We were on our knees in the gravel. It was hard. Like it was really hard.”"

The Walking Dead won’t return until October for the kickoff of season 7, but in the meantime fans will tirelessly continue to try to figure out who Negan chose as his victim from the lineup. Hopefully, Danai Gurira will still be with the show in season 7 to help provide fans with many more great moments in the #1 rated show on television.
