The Walking Dead: There were more roadblocks than fans saw
By Adam Carlson
Fans of The Walking Dead got to see interesting roadblocks by The Saviors in their cat and mouse game with Rick’s group, but there were more we didn’t see.
One of the most interesting parts of The Walking Dead‘s season 6 finale involved the cat-and-mouse game that The Saviors were playing with Rick’s group in the RV. Each time the RV would attempt to be taken on a different path to The Hilltop to get Maggie some help, The Saviors were there waiting.
It appears as though Negan’s men used a lot of manpower to set up these roadblocks to force the RV to turn around, some with more elaborate displays of power than others. For example, one roadblock had chained up walkers with pieces of Michonne, Daryl and other survivor’s apparel on them and another featured a stack of burning logs and a man being hanged.

When you think about all the effort that went into this trap, it’s funny to think that there was more than fans didn’t get to see going on in the universe from The Saviors. Thanks to Talking Dead (and ComicBook.com for transcribing), showrunner Scott M. Gimple was able to explain a bit about how Negan’s group was always one step ahead.
"“They have vast resources, there are a lot of people, and in this episode, episode 16, they have been watching Alexandria. They know a lot about it. They see which direction they’re going and they put their plans into motion.”"
Fans know this to be true by how The Saviors were able to describe Carol’s car and the gates of Alexandria. But that still didn’t explain how Negan knew which routes Rick would be taking to The Hilltop. The easy answer is that he didn’t know.
"“And I would say that the places Rick and co. ran into, weren’t the only places with blocks. There were a lot of blocks we didn’t see, but that would be super weird.”"
