The Walking Dead: The Alien’s connection to comic series
By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead: The Alien gave fans a peek into the zombie outbreak in Spain, but there was another major connection that could change the franchise forever.
When it was announced that The Walking Dead was getting the one-shot treatment over at Panel Syndicate, it was a nice surprise. Finding out more about what is going on in other places around the world as the undead slowly take over the world is very interesting. However, when The Walking Dead: The Alien was released, there was no way to be prepared for the connection the book gave.
***WARNING: THE WALKING DEAD: THE ALIEN SPOILERS BELOW***
The Walking Dead: Alien introduced two major characters in Spain: Claudia and Jeff. Jeff was a bit naive to the zombie outbreak, putting himself in danger, but Claudia seemed well prepared for the undead. She saved Jeff’s life with a walker right in his face and helped take him to safety.
Claudia finds out Jeff is American and has heard a rumor that the people in America have found a way to contain the outbreak and wants to bring that kind of ability to Spain. They end up exploring the sewers of Spain to avoid the walkers above. They get to a boat, but are surprised by a walker who pushes Claudia in the water. Jeff dives in and rescues her, but it’s discovered that he’s been bitten in the process and asks Claudia for a mercy killing.
That’s when things get interesting. Check out this page from The Walking Dead: The Alien:
A brother named Richie that everyone calls Rick. Fans of The Walking Dead are definitely familiar with Rick Grimes, but this couldn’t be the brother of RICK GRIMES, right?
Well, The Walking Dead: The Alien made sure that readers knew the connection was absolutely established.
That is the story of Jeff’s brother immediately matches up with what happened to Rick Grimes. Shot in the line of duty and in a coma. That’s getting to be far more than just a coincidence. And when fans look back at The Walking Dead issue #3, they can see a conversation involving Lori Grimes talking about how she met Rick. And it involves talking about his younger brother: Jeff.
Since then, The Walking Dead’s creator has confirmed that this story is absolutely part of The Walking Dead’s comic book universe and these stories and characters will not be forgotten.
