The Walking Dead shares Negan’s former occupation
By Adam Carlson
The occupation The Walking Dead’s Negan, the leader of The Saviors, formerly held before zombies was revealed in Image+ magazine’s Here’s Negan series.
As described previously, a comic book miniseries titled Here’s Negan got its first release in Image+, which teases upcoming releases for Image Comics. Here’s Negan will take a good look into the past of the leader of The Saviors and the origins of his infamous weapon Lucille.
However, learning those details isn’t a great thing for everyone. In fact, many fans enjoyed speculating what it was about Negan’s past that made him the ultra-violent sociopath that readers have gotten to know since his introduction in issue #100 of The Walking Dead comic book series.
But it didn’t take long for the actual profession that Negan worked to get out, and ComicBook.com was able to pass that information along to readers:
***WARNING: HERE’S NEGAN SPOILERS BELOW***
If you were guessing that Negan was a used car salesman or exterminator like many fans seemed to belive, you would be incorrect. Instead, Here’s Negan revealed that the tough-nosed, foul-mouthed villain actually used to spend a lot of time around kids.
Here is the description of the first installment of Here’s Negan according to ComicBook.com:
"“It appears that prior to the world falling apart, Negan was a school teacher and ping pong coach. The story starts out with a younger, still sarcastic Negan coaching a few young men on their ping pong skills. When he is able to ruthlessly dominate one young opponent, he uses his colorful language and sexual references to further belittle the pupil. After the pupil scampers off, the other two young men apologize, trying to stay cool in Negan’s eyes. Negan, of course, wants to be the cool teacher in school. This is revealed when his girlfriend or wife approaches following the kids running out. Things turn bad when she appears to have a seizure right in front of Negan and lose her footing.”"
If bets were being placed on what Negan’s occupation was, schoolteacher would have been considered a longshot. And ping-pong coach would have paid off astronomical odds. While it’s hard to imagine Negan smashing ping-pong balls and using his colorful language to destroy kids, that seems to be the direction The Walking Dead took the character in.
