Fear the Walking Dead: What Kirkman really said about a crossover (Spoiler alert: not likely)

So many reports have titles that say Robert Kirkman says Fear the Walking Dead and Walking Dead crossover possible.  But was that all he said. Is that the whole story?

I’ve had trouble figuring out what to title my articles ever since I started blogging about The Walking Dead. I’ve even been told I’m bad at it. I need to give readers a hint of what to expect in the article and use keywords to help Google find the article for readers.

But one thing I don’t think I ever do is mislead readers. I don’t understand the crop of recent articles with the titles about Robert Kirkman saying that a crossover with The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead is possible. When I saw that, I thought I needed to check that out as a topic to cover.

But when I read his quote, the possibility of a crossover disappears quite quickly. I wonder why all the different outlets chose to focus on the word possible rather than put the reality of his statement in the title: it’s highly unlikely at this point.

When Executive Producer Dave Erickson talked about a crossover a while back, he said it plainly (via Cinemablend) :

"“No. That’s the one straight answer I can give you. The chronology is so far apart, and there’s a continent between them.”"

Robert Kirkman did use the word possible recently at Hawaii Comic Con with a fan, but there’s much more to his quote (Via Inquisitr) :

"“We’re already on Season 7 and this one’s on Season 2 and that would be crazy. As far as if those characters will ever encounter each other, I mean, they’re in the same universe so it’s completely possible. Geographically, they’re no where near each other so it would be somewhat far-fetched if group A were to somehow encounter group B unless over the course of many, many, many, many seasons somehow it made sense.”"

So if you’re hoping for a crossover, you need to hope for a very long run for Fear the Walking Dead or The Walking Dead or both series. Right now in Fear Rick is just waking up from his coma. Perhaps a relative of one of our group lives in Mexico or California though! Or vice versa.

Next: My first Walker Stalker Con

The second half of season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead returns on August 21, 2016 for 8 more episodes. The Walking Dead is likely to return after that, perhaps October 16 or 23. We should get our first tease of things to come in July from San Diego Comic-Con!
