Does The Walking Dead need to ‘make up’ for the cliffhanger?
By Adam Carlson
The Walking Dead upset many fans with the cliffhanger ending to season 6, but does the popular AMC zombie show need to make up for the way it left things?
It’s no surprise that the way The Walking Dead finished season 6 left a bad taste in the mouth of many fans. For some, it was not knowing who Negan had killed that made things bad. For others, it was chopping up the events from the popular comic book series that infuriated them. But with all the controversy surrounding the finale, there is one big question: Does The Walking Dead need to ‘make up’ for the cliffhanger ending?

The folks over at Cinema Blend absolutely feel that the hit AMC show needs to do something for their fans who struggled with the long wait between seasons who don’t know the fate of some of the most popular character on the show. In fact they have expressed the way that the show can make amends to its viewers.
While this situation is hard for fans to deal with, The Walking Dead doesn’t owe fans anything in terms of resolving this cliffhanger. In fact, the fans who are struggling with this situation are justifying the use of the cliffhanger ending. Discussing the show and speculating about what may happen when it returns for season 7 is exactly what AMC intended with this method of storytelling.

Forcing fans to wait several months to find out if their favorite character is dead is difficult, but it goes a long way in proving that The Walking Dead has done a fantastic job of growing and developing these characters to an audience who is very passionate about the future of the program.
The uproar over the cliffhanger speaks much more about the impetuousness of today’s society than the show itself.
These days, instant gratification is king, whether it is on-demand music, movies, food, shopping, or television shows. In the past, a cliffhanger like this wouldn’t have been such an uproar, but with the way people are now, it seems almost intolerable for some fans to wait until October.

Some fans may see the season 6 cliffhanger ending as a cheap ploy by The Walking Dead to get more attention for the season 7 premiere..and they may be right. But that doesn’t mean that AMC needs to change the future they have planned for the series to “make it up” to fans. Instead, viewers should trust the hit show to continue telling compelling stories that keep fans interested instead of looking for reasons the zombie show may owe them for playing with their emotions.
