George A. Romero getting a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
By Adam Carlson
Zombie legend and The Walking Dead inspiration George A. Romero will be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to horror films.
For a long time, there was actually a strong movement to keep zombie legend and director George A. Romero from getting a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame. Horror films like his are often frowned upon by movie purists who don’t see the value in horror films of this type.

Thankfully, that movement will end in disappointment as it was announced today that Romero will be a member of the Hollywood Walk of Fame for 2017 as a contributor for his work in films. Best known for his “Dead” movies including Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead and numerous others, Romero has been an inspiration to many horror directors over the years.
One of those individuals is The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, who owes much of his own success to Romeo, even saying that “Stephanie Meyer is to Bram Stoker as Robert Kirkman is to George Romero” in an interview on Comic Book Resources.
Romero doesn’t share the same fondness for AMC’s The Walking Dead. He’s gone on record with the Los Angeles Times as saying that the hit show is “basically it’s just a soap opera with a zombie occasionally.”
Despite that, the zombie genre would be nowhere near as popular as it is today without the contributions of Romeo and his cutting social commentary through the use of the undead. Thankfully, he will finally be recognized this year for his accomplishments along with other fantastic individuals.

At this time, there is no official date for the 2017 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony to be held. However, it would not be shocking to see Robert Kirkman, Greg Nicotero, or others from The Walking Dead in attendance to witness this honor for George A. Romero.
