With season 7 of AMC’s zombie hit show The Walking Dead getting closer, the show has promoted 4 of its actors from recurring roles to series regulars.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news this morning about the promotion of actors who portray 4 important comic book characters on The Walking Dead  to series regulars.

Katelyn Nacon, who plays Enid, is still listed as a recurring character. The actors promoted include: Tom Payne, who plays Jesus, or Paul Rovia from Hilltop, Xander Berkeley,  Gregory, the fastidious and somewhat cowardly leader of Hilltop, Austin Amelio,  Daryl’s Savior nemesis, who killed Denise, and of course, Jeffrey Dean Morgan,  Mr. Negan himself.

All 4 of those characters were introduced in the second half of season 6 and should play important parts in season 7 going forward. But being a series regular does not guarantee safety or longevity on The Walking Dead.

Last season, Tovah Feldshuh, Alexandra Breckenridge were promoted to series regulars and neither Jessie nor Deanna is around for season 7. Nor are recurring characters Denise or Nicholas.

With the addition of the 4 actors promoted for season 7, the total of series regulars is now 20, which is the highest ever.

Here’s the full list of series regulars for season seven: Andrew Lincoln(Rick), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Chandler Riggs (Carl), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Melissa McBride (Carol), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham), Lennie James (Morgan), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), Alanna Masterson (Tara), Christian Serratos (Rosita), Josh McDermitt (Eugene), Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel), Ross Marquand (Aaron), Austin Nichols (Spencer), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan), Tom Payne (Jesus), Austin Amelio (Dwight), and Xander Berkeley (Gregory).
