By Adam Carlson
A former cast member of AMC’s hit zombie survival drama The Walking Dead has joined the fantastic ensemble of the FOX program Gotham for season 3.
The Walking Dead isn’t the only popular television show based on a popular comic book series. In fact, with the rise in popularity of comic book adaptations, several other stories have jumped off the pages of the comics and onto the small screen.

One of those comics enjoying wildly popular success on television is Gotham. Telling the tale of Batman and featuring many of the popular characters fans have grown to love over the years, Gotham has accumulated a rabid following in just two seasons.
There has already been some crossover appeal between Gotham and The Walking Dead. A character based on The Penguin is played by Robin Lord Taylor, who played “Hippie” Sam on The Walking Dead. But now, another former cast member from AMC’s zombie drama will join the show for season 3.
According to an announcement on the TVLine website, Benedict Samuel will play the Mad Hatter on the DC Comics inspired program.

Fans of The Walking Dead may remember Samuel in his role of Owen during seasons 5 and 6. As a member of the group The Wolves, he terrorized the survivors of Alexandria and shared several great scenes with fantastic actors like Lennie James (Morgan Jones) and Dr. Denise Cloyd (Merritt Wever).
Benedict Samuel did a wonderful job of bringing the character Owen to live and acting as a polarizing figure to Morgan’s hope for humanity. He also helped to prove that not everyone is always evil when he saved Denise from a walker during the zombie invasion of Alexandria.
Playing the role of The Mad Hatter on Gotham shouldn’t be a huge challenge for Samuel. Here is how he is described on the character’s Wikipedia page:
"“The Mad Hatter is depicted as a scientist who invents and uses technological mind-controlling devices to influence and manipulate the minds of his victims. He is well known for sporting a green-colored hat which is usually slightly oversized, as it houses his mobile mind-manipulating devices.”"
