The Walking Dead brings Republicans and Democrats together
By Adam Carlson
Whether you identify as a Republican or a Democrat, odds are that you will still probably enjoy AMC’s popular zombie survival drama The Walking Dead.
With the 2016 election right around the corner, political tensions are at an extreme high around the United States. Because of that, there has been plenty of research going into lots of things, including preferences of food, movies, and music of those who identify themselves as members of each major political party.

Recently, PR Newswire released a report from E-Score where they discussed the top shows that individuals from each party prefer. The results were very interesting and seemed to have some love for a certain AMC zombie survival drama program.
In the report, there were only three programs that were in the top 10 most watched shows of both parties. Those programs each have very loyal followings, as Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, and The Walking Dead are all established programs with proven track records of success.

However. the most interesting thing about the lists is that The Walking Dead was the #2 program among Republicans and ranked #6 with Democrats. This is the second highest combined rating, with only Supernatural receiving higher marks.
The biggest competition to The Walking Dead wasn’t even ranked in the top 10 on the Republican side of the charts. Game Of Thrones was the #1 program among Democrats, but it appears as though the other major political party doesn’t share the love for the HBO fantasy program.
Here are the findings PR Newswire found from E-Score’s research:
- Democrats – “Prefer programs that are sexy, edgy, emotionally involving, ethnically diverse or have strong characters. These shows may be more attractive to supporters of Clinton.”
- Republicans – “Prefer programs that are family-friendly, funny, plot driven or have storylines that involve “good vs. evil.” These shows may be more appealing to supporters of Trump.”

It’s good to know that even if politics is dividing America apart right now that they can both find pleasure in something. And, with that, it’s even better that one of the major things on television that just about everyone can agree upon is AMC’s The Walking Dead.
