Here’s Negan Part 5 shows The Walking Dead villain’s pain
By Adam Carlson
Negan may be one of the strongest bad guys in the comic book series The Walking Dead, but he endures some huge emotional pain in Here’s Negan: Part 5.
The world of The Walking Dead is a tough one. For the most part, characters are only seen through the eyes of the survivors who fans have grown to love over the years. But what about the other individuals that can be seen as villains?
When talking about the bad guys from The Walking Dead, all eyes right now are on Negan. Not only is he a major part of the comic book series from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment, but he’s fresh of his debut during the hit AMC show’s season 6 finale. However, fans who have enjoyed Negan to this point are getting a whole new look at the tough guy.
Thanks to Here’s Negan, a short series of 4-5 page comics included in the Image+ preview magazine, fans are getting some backstory on Negan in ways that has only been speculated on before.
Now, at Part 5, Here’s Negan has built a very compelling story surrounding the character. Telling the story of his profession, relationship with his wife, infidelity, his wife’s illness, and more, it is a very powerful set of short stories that adds a lot to the character and makes him an individual readers can relate to.
Here’s Negan: Part 4 took that story and added another dimension to it. When his wife was in the hospital fighting for her life against cancer, Negan was there by her side. Sadly, she lost the battle, and Negan did not take it well and was even more shaken up when a young man tells him to run for his life.
He barricaded himself inside the hospital room and returning to her bedside to hold her hand. Then, distracted by noise outside, the woman turned into a walker, sending Negan into pure panic mode.
Part 5 picked right up at that point, as it was finally learned that his wife’s name is Lucille. She falls off the bed, reaching for him to consume his flesh while Negan is stunned and in disbelief. He tries snapping her out of it by talking to her, but is unsuccessful. Kissing her on the forehead, he says that he’s sorry and leaves to find a survivor trapped by the undead.
Sadly, he will never get the opportunity to try to make things up to his wife for what he’s done in his past after finally realizing what was important to him.

So far, the response to the Here’s Negan story has been a mixed bag. Some people would have prefered the history of Negan to remain a mystery in the world of The Walking Dead while others appreciate getting a more human look at a character who is entertaining but had a relatively unknown past.
