The Monroe Comic Con in Michigan hosted 3 feature walkers from The Walking Dead who shared stories with guests during the panel time.

Katie Lumpkin, Skip Bartlett and Stephen Vining attending the Monroe Comic Con for a one day event this Saturday. All 3 of the actors have been numerous walkers throughout seasons 5 and 6 of The Walking Dead, including several very memorable hero walkers for each actor.

Katie’s most memorable walker would be the kidnapped walker that Maggie found in the trunk. Skip’s most memorable walker would be the walker with the hanging chin that invaded Alexandria.

Stephen has been cast as several very memorable walkers, including one of the napalm walkers, one of the pantry water walkers, the Cherokee Rose walker, and the Insurance Man walker, to name a few.

All 3 actors have been many more walkers as well and to paraphrase something Skip commented on during the panel, no matter where you are in the production, they all do their best at all time in order to make the work turn out the best it can be.

Katie mentioned that it’s exhilarating to watch yourself die on screen. Skip agreed that the most fun part is to die or eat somebody. He thinks it’s fun to be hated for killing somebody the fans liked.

A fascinating thing the walkers shared was how what they do on set is somewhat different from what they see when they watch from home when the episode airs. They don’t always have the full story or the emotion attached to the episode from the direction they get.

Related Story: Stephen Vining is also a hip hop music producer

Katie’s episode with the kidnapped walker took place after Beth’s death, but Katie was unaware of that when she filmed the episode. So the emotion from Maggie seemed a little stronger than made sense to Katie at the time of filming, but when she saw the episode air at home in the order of the show, things fell into place a little more.

More from Undead Walking

Katie’s kidnapped walker gets quite a bit of reaction from the fans who say they felt sorry for her when the saw her in the trunk.

Stephen had a similar experience with his Insurance Man walker. When he was on set, he was told he would be the “fish bowl” walker. Some of his direction was to pace and act like a sad cat. The scene outside the fish bowl with Abraham and Sasha was going on without Stephen’s knowledge.

When the episode aired, Stephen could hear what was happening on the other side of the glass, which made a big difference. Also, according to Stephen, when there’s music added, it elicits emotion that you don’t feel on the set that creates something bigger, especially in such an iconic scene.

Another little piece of walker trivia that was fun to find out is that the walker groaning is usually added afterward because they want to capture the voices of the main actors. Greg Nicotero often is the growler.

However. sometimes the walkers are are directed to do their best walker sound effects at the time  of the filming, and when that happens they said it sounds crazy loud.

If you’re ever at a convention where there are walkers from The Walking Dead available to meet, I highly recommend it. They are very kind and full of fun stories.
