The newest episode of The Walking Dead, “Service,” takes us back to Alexandria. It’s time to check in with the people who stayed in Alexandria, and it’s time for them to learn what happened while Rick and the gang were away.
So there was this election that happened this week, in case you didn’t notice. I’m not going to get political, but something really interesting happened in the world of reality television: CBS star Julie Chen broke the election results to the houseguests on Big Brother. (Yes, that’s still a thing if you didn’t know) The people still on the show had no idea what has been going on outside of the house, and suddenly they received news of who won the election. Their reactions were interesting.

My point here is that the people who remained in Alexandria will have a similar experience when Rick returns. The only thing they knew of Negan’s gang came from Jesus and the Hilltoppers. When Rick returns, he’ll not only have to share the news of Glen and Abraham’s deaths, but he’ll also have to inform them that he’s no longer in charge, and they’ll be paying dues to their new overlord from this point forward.
This moment, four episodes into the seventh season, is the critical moment when the truth hits almost everyone. Morgan and Carol are still unaware of what’s happening with the rest of the group, but Morgan at least understands that Ezekiel is paying dues to Negan. It looks like Negan will impact everyone for the foreseeable future.
