Michonne will fight Negan, but only with Rick by her side. Her passionate speech in the cell gave Rick hope to fight in season 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Love is a powerful drug that can bring even the strongest woman to tears. Michonne, a fierce killer of zombies, governors and cannibals shows her weak side while abiding by Rick Grimes request to just survive and not rock the boat with Negan and the Saviors. During the season 7 midseason finale of The Walking Dead, fans saw a broken Michonne reaching out to her man for any sign of strength within him.

On the verge of falling apart herself, she appeals one last time to Rick sharing she thought she wanted to fight Negan by herself but  realizes that is not what she wants. She needs this be an “ours” not an I.

Letting go of her of her independence is a difficult choice for this samurai warrior of The Walking Dead. Watching Rick become broken during the season 7 premiere put her into a tailspin and fragmented her prowess down to almost nothing. No longer in control she is instead tied to her apocalyptic family who she loves literally to the death .

Her loss of control gave rise to the emotions she often felt when traveling with her pet walkers. Alive on the outside but dead on the inside.

After several attempts, she initially stops trying to persuade Rick and just let him be. He just is not ready to listen.

This comes as a surprise since this woman has become his common sense in the midst of chaos. When she did speak to him it became abundantly clear just how deep her love for this man is. She once again tries to regain his desire to do more than just survive.

We then see what what is called a “lightbulb moment”. He realizes Michonne is right and that he has to fight or more lives will be lost along with his own soul. Never underestimate how powerful one woman can be, especially one with the name of Michonne.
