The comic opens with Negan mourning the loss of Lucille. He collects the pieces of the bat and digs a hole to bury the remains, stating that he never had the chance to bury his wife but that he hopes she is having a great time in heaven before apologizing for naming the bat after her.

While Negan collects himself, the rest of the group is ready to move on. Dwight says that it is time to go, but Negan tells him that he will catch up.

Members of The Kingdom are on their horses riding toward The Hilltop. William is notified that they are probably pushing the horses too hard and they need a rest. William disagrees and orders that the group continue pushing on.

They arrive on a vantage point where they can see that The Hilltop has been burned to the ground. William assumes the worst for the survivors until the majority are safe and regrouping at an area near the underpass.

William apologizes for not getting there sooner, but Maggie says it could have been any settlement that got hit and it was hard to know which one it would be. She then asks to use a horse to round up their horses that got away before heading to Alexandria.

The question of what is next for The Hilltop was asked by William, but Maggie says they will rebuild and make the community stronger than ever, much like they did with Alexandria in the past.

Carl checks in on Lydia, who is struggling to deal with the events that just happened. Carl says that everything will be okay, but Lydia disagrees and tells him about the awful things The Whisperers have done in the past and how she was a part of the destruction and mayhem, but never on the other side of the fight.

Reminding her that he’s been through a lot as well, Carl tries to relate to Lydia. He says they needed to do some horrible things to survive so that they could live to do good things in the future. Hoping they never have to do those things again, he puts his arm around Lydia to comfort her and she holds him tight.

Beta is still struggling to walk on his own after the fight with Negan and Dwight’s group. He wants to keep pressing on, even though his men say he should rest up a heal for a bit before doing anything else. In fact, Beta presses even harder after refusing to rest.

Rick and Andrea are talking about their alert system. He says they will use two rapid fire shots to signal for The Whisperers and three for The Saviors. Andrea confirms that and makes some jokes about him being old before Rick admits that he thinks he is getting soft.

Eugene has arrived in Alexandria. He has his cart full of ammunition for the survivors and is greeted by Rick after entering the gates. Midway through a sentence, Eugene falls off the wagon in exhaustion from working hard and riding to get there.

Rick tells Eugene to get some rest, meanwhile Andrea marvels at the impressive amount of ammunition he has delivered. The scene shifts to Rick and Eugene having coffee. Eugene says this is his way of contributing, but Rick says the electricity, the running water, and the breads prove that he is much more valuable to the community than he ever thought.

A shot rings out to notify the people of Alexandria that someone has arrived. It is Dwight’s group returning victorious from their fight. Rick stands in awe at their accomplishment. Dwight says that it is over, and everyone shares an embrace while Negan stands at the gates watching.

More from Undead Walking

The news that Father Gabriel hasn’t checked in is passed on, but Rick refuses to accept he is dead and says they will search for him. Dwight says they cleaned out the army, but Beta is in charge now and is hurt badly.

Rick questions whether or not this is the end of the war. Dwight reassures him that they are no longer a major threat due to their numbers being wiped out, but Rick lets him know there will be more and he has seen their huge numbers.

A massive herd of the undead is marching toward Alexandria. The remaining members of The Whisperers say they have led the undead far enough, and let they go on their path to destroy the community.
