Issue 163 of The Walking Dead has fun Rick and Negan variant covers
By Adam Carlson
The alternate covers for issue 163 of The Walking Dead comic book feature some fun artwork involving two popular characters: Rick Grimes and Negan.
This is a very serious time in the world of The Walking Dead. The Whisperers have done some major damage to The Hilltop and now have their sights on running a massive herd of the undead through Alexandria.
Issue 163 of the comic book series titled ‘Conquered’ should have a ton of action and many possible close scares for readers, but perhaps the most interesting part leading up to the comic’s release on February 1, 2017 is the variant covers.
While the standard version will feature the hands of walkers being raised along with Rick’s, the variant versions are a lot more fun, showing a character in attire fans are not used to seeing.
Here are the two variant covers of The Walking Dead 163: ‘Conquered’ as shared on the official Skybound website:
This is almost something you’d expect to see a fan dressing as on a convention. Seeing what Rick Grimes would have looked like if he decided to take on a Negan-type look is not only fun, but a little scary.

But it just looks wrong. So very wrong. The Walking Dead has gone a long way to try to show the differences between Rick and Negan that seeing this mashed up version of the protagonist with a former (possibly current?) villain is moderately disturbing.
However. having both color and black and white versions of this alternate cover available is great as well. It gives collectors a couple of fun covers to add to their collection but also makes them different enough to make them feel unique while showing the same Charlie Adlard artwork.
Alone, this artwork would be a fantastic piece to hang in someone’s home as a conversation piece for a huge fan, but it work as a cover, even if fans shouldn’t expect it to become canon anytime soon.

The Walking Dead issue 163 will be released on February 1, 2017 with the standard cover as well as the two variants. No matter which cover you prefer, the story as well as the artwork should continue to be amazing for fans of the comic book series.
